By putting a strong focus on phonics, we can ensure that the children will be able to decode words that would be otherwise very difficult to read. There are 44 phonics sounds in English. There are six phases of phonics. Children start with the 19 single letter phonetic sounds and then move onto the two letter phonetic combinations. In conjunction with phonics we will also focus on getting the children to understand and be able to read sight words. We will get into the differences between both phonics and sight words and the importance of studying both.
